Canon EOS Camera Compatibility List
EOS Digital Info is designed to communicate with the Canon SDK across multiple generations. Find your camera model below to verify support for shutter count retrieval and metadata editing.
Full Support: DIGIC 4 & 5
Cameras powered by DIGIC 4, 4+, and 5 processors offer the highest compatibility. Our tool can reliably pull shutter actuations, serial numbers, and modify internal copyright strings via USB.
Limited: DIGIC 6 & 7
For DIGIC 6 and newer models (e.g. 80D, 5D IV), Canon began encrypting usage data. While system info and copyright sync may work, the shutter count field may return “0” or “Unknown”.
SDK Versioning Matters
Our v1.4 release allows you to toggle between SDK 2.14 (Legacy) and SDK 3.5 (Modern). This dual-core approach ensures that 15+ years of Canon EOS history is covered in one app.

EOS R Series Support
The transition to the RF Mount and Mirrorless architecture changed how Canon stores internal actuation data.
Mirrorless & EOS M Compatibility
For EOS M series (M, M2, M3, M5, M6, M50), shutter count retrieval is generally Fully Supported via the legacy SDK mode in EOS Digital Info v1.4.
Regarding the EOS R Series (R, RP, R5, R6, R7, R10): Due to Canon’s new firmware encryption, shutter counts may not display in the current build. However, Metadata Sync, Copyright Editing, and Clock Alignment remain fully functional for these models.
Future-Proofing Your Gear
Our developer community is constantly working on reverse-engineering the latest DIGIC X encryption. Updates for R-series shutter support are currently in the Alpha Testing phase for the next major release.
Canon Region Naming Guide
Canon uses different names for the same camera body depending on the market (Americas, Europe/Asia, or Japan). EOS Digital Info supports all these variations. Check the table below to see if your “Rebel” or “Kiss” is compatible.
| Americas (Rebel) | Europe/Asia (EOS) | Japan (Kiss) |
|---|---|---|
| EOS Rebel T7i | EOS 800D | EOS Kiss X9i |
| EOS Rebel T6i | EOS 750D | EOS Kiss X8i |
| EOS Rebel T5 | EOS 1200D | EOS Kiss X70 |
| EOS Rebel SL2 | EOS 200D | EOS Kiss X9 |
Find Your Serial Number
EOS Digital Info will pull your Digital Serial Number directly from the internal logic board, but for physical verification, check these two locations:
- Bottom Plate: Look for the 12-digit numeric code near the tripod mount.
- Original Box: Check the white label with the barcode (marked as S/N).
Model Not on the List?
Canon releases new firmware and hardware iterations frequently. If you don’t see your specific EOS model, follow these professional diagnostic steps.
Try the Generic Connection
Even if your model isn’t explicitly named, it likely shares a Communication Protocol with a similar generation. Try connecting using the SDK 3.5 (Modern) setting first, as most cameras post-2015 use this standardized interface.
The “1D” Legacy Exception
For extremely old models like the EOS-1D Mark II or 20D, shutter data might only be accessible via specialized firewire connections or local Canon service software. EOS Digital Info focuses on USB-based EOS DSLR models from 2008 onwards.
Check Your DIGIC Generation
If your camera uses DIGIC 8 or DIGIC X, Canon has moved the shutter counter to a restricted area of the firmware. While you can still use our tool to sync copyright data, the shutter count field will remain locked until a future SDK update.
Missing a model? We rely on user feedback! If you’ve successfully connected a model not listed here, please let us know to help other photographers.
How Compatibility Affects Resale Value
In the used camera market, a verified shutter count is the single most important factor for price evaluation. For compatible EOS models like the 5D Mark III or 6D, having a low, software-verified count can increase the final sale price by up to 20%.
Proof of Usage
Buyers on eBay or Fred Miranda demand screenshots of the actuation count to avoid high-mileage professional gear.
Fraud Prevention
EOS Digital Info reads the internal board data, ensuring the count hasn’t been masked by a simple settings reset.
