About This Site

An Independent Resource for Canon Shutter Count.

This is an independent, unofficial resource site for EOS Digital Info — a free Windows utility that reads Canon shutter actuations, serial numbers, firmware versions and camera metadata over USB. We are not affiliated with Canon Inc., nor with the software’s developer.

Canon does not include the shutter count in EXIF data and offers no consumer tool to read it. This site collects the essentials in one place: a download mirror, an honest compatibility list, and troubleshooting guides based on the developer’s documentation and real user reports.

How the Tool Works.

The facts, without the marketing.

🏗️

Reads via Canon’s ED-SDK

The utility communicates with the camera through Canon’s official ED-SDK over USB — the same interface Canon’s own software uses. Unlike online checkers that guess from EXIF data, it queries the camera’s internal counters directly.

🔐

Local and Private

It runs entirely on your Windows PC. There is no need to upload your photos to a website to get a shutter count.

Read-First Design

Checking the shutter count is a read operation. Editing the owner/artist/copyright strings and syncing the clock use the SDK’s standard write functions — the same ones Canon’s utilities use.

About the Software.

EOS Digital Info v1.4 is a free Windows utility written by an independent developer and published on SourceForge. It ships in two subversions: one built on Canon SDK 2.14 (for DIGIC 4 / 5 / 5+ cameras — shutter-count reading supported) and one on SDK 3.5 (for DIGIC 6 and newer — metadata only).

The developer’s own notes are the authority on compatibility: DIGIC II and dual-DIGIC III cameras are not supported, neither is the EOS M series, and shutter counts on DIGIC 6+ bodies can only be read by Canon service centres.
