EOS Digital Info Not Working? Fix It Here
Double-click and nothing happens? The app won’t start at all? These are the usual culprits, easiest first.
1. Did you extract the ZIP first?
The download is a ZIP archive. If you double-click the .exe inside the ZIP without extracting, supporting files (like EDSDK.dll) can’t load and nothing happens. Right-click the ZIP → Extract All, then run the .exe from the extracted folder.
2. Windows SmartScreen: “Windows protected your PC”
EOS Digital Info is unsigned freeware, so SmartScreen may block it. This is expected for unsigned tools: click More info → Run anyway. (Only do this for the copy you downloaded from this page or the developer’s SourceForge — never for random re-uploads.)
3. Check your antivirus quarantine
Some antivirus products flag unsigned camera tools heuristically. Check the quarantine vault — if the .exe was moved there, restore it and add an exclusion for the folder.
4. Run as Administrator
Right-click → Run as administrator. Missing permissions can silently kill the launch on locked-down Windows accounts.
5. Pick the right subversion for your camera
Two builds exist: SDK 2.14 (“Legacy”) for DIGIC 4/5/5+ bodies (reads shutter count) and SDK 3.5 for DIGIC 6+ (metadata only). Using the wrong one on an old camera can produce errors or a blank window — grab the other build and try it.
Frequently asked questions
The most common cause is running the .exe from inside the unextracted ZIP — the supporting DLLs can’t load. Extract the whole ZIP first, then run the .exe from the extracted folder, as Administrator.
That warning appears for all unsigned software. It is expected here — click More info → Run anyway, but only for copies from this site’s download page or the developer’s SourceForge release.
Try the other subversion (SDK 2.14 vs 3.5) — a DIGIC 6+ camera on the Legacy build, or vice versa, is a common trigger. Also try running as Administrator.
